Coco peat is the best media used for growing many Exotic plants inside polyhouse than soil.Many countries across globally are using coco peat as media for horticulture and floriculture.In India the awareness of using coco peat is increasing recently.

There are many advantages of using coco peat which are given below.

• Since soil is not exposed to rain there are chances that it will lose its natural strength.
• It is not advisable to use soil after two years inside a Polyhouse.
• Coco peat should be leached for seven to ten days before it gets filled in grow bags.
• Grow bags are available in different sizes and we can select the size based on the crop which we plan to cultivate.
• Also PE ratio and electric conductivity to be maintained at recommended levels.
• Bio fertilizers should be mixed in coco peat before its filled in grow bags.

Using coco peat for growing plant will save lot of water because water will not get drained or evaporated as it happens in soil.Also growth of weeds will be completely stopped when we used Coco peat.  This will also reduce the manpower cost.

We will have to place mulching sheets before placing the grow bags. This will also avoid growing of weeds in open areas too.Also if a plant is affected by some diseases we will remove only that particular plant.  Disease will not get spread to other plants.

For example, growing of colour capsicum in one acre of open land we will get a yield of 12 to 15 tons for a crop. Also we will require ten manpower at any point of time.

Whereas growing of colour capsicum in one acre of polyhouse by using soil we will get a yield of 40 to 50 tons for a crop. Also we will require five manpower at any point of time.Whereas growing of colour capsicum in one acre of polyhouse by using coco peat we will get a yield of 70 to 75 tons for a crop. Also we will require only three manpower at any point of time.  The life of Colour capsicum plant is nine months.  We can do harvesting for seven months.  First two months will be vegetative period.

To summarize using of coco peat will avoid weeds, pest and diseases. It will also help in minimum water usage.  It will also reduce the manpower cost.  It will also ensure higher yields there by the farmers will also get more A grade variety which will fetch him higher prices in market. Farmers will also get higher return on his investment.
